It started with client work while I was still at university, and most of it since has been on founding teams - where the job is never only engineering: deciding what to build, arguing for the architecture that survives the next two years, and staying accountable for it long after the release. I've done that as a founding engineer twice, from an engineering advisory board seat, and alongside a CTO translating strategy into something a team can actually ship.

An automation platform that handles the administrative load for doctors and healthcare organisations.

Make a clinical product fast enough and safe enough for daily use in a regulated environment.

What I owned

Frontend platform

Rendering strategy, performance budget and the loading and compression work behind it. Owned as a standing concern rather than a one-off project.

Type safety migration

Made the case for TypeScript, planned the migration around active feature work, and led it through to enforcement in CI.

Reliability and monitoring

Automated test coverage of the production application, plus real-time error tracking so regressions surface before support tickets do.

Security posture

Vulnerability review and the protocols protecting patient data, against HIPAA obligations that are not negotiable in this market.

  • Sit on the engineering advisory board, where the stack and tooling decisions I argued for produced a 20% improvement in operational efficiency and cost.
  • Work directly with the CTO translating strategy into delivery - scoping what engineering commits to each cycle, and being accountable for it landing.
  • Took roughly 800ms out of frontend load and ~120ms out of backend response, through lazy loading, compression, caching, query optimisation and prompt tuning.
  • Led the TypeScript migration that cut production bugs by a quarter, chosen because the same class of defect kept recurring and patching them individually was never going to end.
  • Partnered with design on a customer-centric rebuild of the existing interfaces, rather than treating the UI as a layer applied after the fact.

Took an AI document-insight feature from proposal to production, including the retrieval approach and its failure modes.
